Decision Support System for NIRF
A predictive dashboard
About Decision Support System
NIRF
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
Data used
The data is collected from several available NIRF reports which contains submitted data and the score given by the framework to the institute. These reports are collected for Indian Institutes of Management and the plots are generated to provide a clear understanding the performance of IIMs over time.
Methodology
A Machine Learning model is trained on the NIRF scores data for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. The trained model is then deployed on the 2024 NIRF data to explore the sensitivity analytics of management institutes. Using this decision support system, the position of an institute can be observed with respect to the IIMs.
How to use this Decision Support System
This DSS is prepared to assist institute decision-makers, whether they aim for specific directions such as research, teaching-learning, or graduate outcomes. Their efforts can be understood through a two-fold or three-fold increase compared to previous cycles. Based on this understanding, input values can be adjusted to predict relative changes in the NIRF rankings for 2025.
Developed by
The dashboard is developed at Inter-disciplinary Decision Sciences & Analytics Lab in IIM Visakhapatnam. IDeAL is a research facility funded by IIM Visakhapatnam to engage in research areas where Decision Sciences and Analytics can be applied. Most of the focus areas of IDeAL are inter-disciplinary and focussed towards development of society.
